Thursday evening –
Arsene Wenger told us of how Jack Wilshere runs the risk of being burned out this season by playing 40+ games for club and country. Speaking on Thursday Wenger said how it is his (Wilshere’s) first full season of football and it could be a case of too much too young for the widely regarded sensation.
Wenger has pleaded this message due to Wilshere being heavily involved in England’s senior and under-21 teams. The premier league season ends on 7 May but Wilshere has England duties as he faces Switzerland with the senior team on June 4 before he travels and meets up with the u-21 stars on June 8 in Denmark, joining the likes of Adam Johnson, Nedum Onouha & Jordan Henderson.
Wilshere has forced his way into the Arsenal side this year and has relegated the likes of Theo Walcott & Van Persie to the bench. There is a slight worry of how he might over do it and it seems similar to a few years ago when Sir Alex issued a similar plea regarding a certain Mr Rooney. Wilshere has enjoyed a fine season to date at the Emirates and will be relishing his chance to take on Chelsea on Monday night, as he will be up against top right-back José Bosingwa.
A win for Arsenal on Monday evening could seriously bolster Arsenal’s chances of winning the league and re establish their grip on a piece of silverware for the first time in six years. Mind you, the Gunners are also going smoothly for Carling Cup success, facing a semi-final bout with Roy Keane’s Ipswich and then the possibility of meeting West Ham or Birmingham in the final.
In recent match-ups Arsenal have failed to muster a victory against current champions Chelsea or table toppers Manchester United, faltering in their last nine attempts. In 18 attempts, Arsenal have won only 3 times against these two, so there is a lot riding on the outcome of this match.
