Smith Out For The Rest Of The Season

Newcastle midfielder Alan Smith has been ruled out for the remainder of the season following an ankle injury he picked up in the Tyneside derby battle with Sunderland.

Smith was helped off last Sunday in the 1-1 draw with the Black Cats, being substituted shortly before half time and will be a huge blow for the Magpies following his heroic performances for the Tyneside club.

Smith had played 10 games for Newcastle this season and has failed to score this season. He will be a big miss for Alan Padrew’s men and is unlikely to feature for the rest of the season.

Magpies manager Alan Pardrew confirmed the news today:

“It’s an ankle he’s had problems with, we think he’ll probably be out for the rest of the season.

“When you get a heavy blow like he did it’s a very low recovery rate.”
