Transfer Round Up #2

Back with my weekly ‘Transfer Thursday’ I’ve taken a look at the stars keen to make an impression in the Premier League this January.

Jean Makoun
Lyon – Aston Villa

Late last week, we were told that Gerard Houiller had finally signed target Jean Makoun, having been keen on him for some time. Makoun played as a defensive midfielder for Lyon in Ligue 1 and he wasn’t shy of scoring for Les Gones, scoring 8 goals in 76 appearances. £6 million may seem a bargain deal for a player that has impressed in Lyon but only time will tell if he can make an impression in the world’s top flight.

David Bentley
Tottenham – Birmingham

Joining Birmingham has seemed to have saved Bentley’s career having fallen out of favour with parent club Tottenham Hotspur. His debut for the Midlands side was far from impressive and if he doesn’t improve he’ll fall out with Birmingham too. Bentley will return to Tottenham at the end of the season.

Darren Bent
Sunderland – Aston Villa

In controversial circumstances earlier this week, Darren Bent swapped Tyneside for the Midlands as he was bought by Gerard Houllier for an Aston Villa record £24m. He cited that the move was a bid to revive his England career although, if he wasn’t noticed at Sunderland I seriously doubt he’ll be noticed at Aston Villa.

Jermain Jones
Wolfsburg – Blackburn

Jones has joined Blackburn on a loan until the end of the season from German outfit Wolfsburg. It’s a bid to revive the Americans career as he’s been relegated to the subs bench for the season following a fall out with Shalke coach Felix Magath. Jones is a defensive midfielder and will more than likely become a valuable asset for the Lancashire club.

Robbie Keane
Tottenham – ?

Birmingham had apparently seemed to have lodged a bid for Keane but that speculation has been cooled following Keane’s statement that it was a “publicity stunt”. Keane has also been associated with West Ham during the current transfer window but there are serious doubts that he would drop everything and join a club rapidly spiralling down the table.

About Dylan O'Neill

Football mad Irish 20-year-old. Living in Dublin so I've had a keen interest in League of Ireland for the last 2-3 years and used to write about it on, focusing mainly on UCD's limited fortunes as well as the Irish national team. I started to merge this interest with gambling two years ago to moderate success so have continued to do so since! View all posts by Dylan O'Neill
