Carroll Sidelined As He Faces Extra Spell On The Sidelines – Treatment Wasn’t Working

Newcastle forward Andy Carroll has been handed a serious blow after it emerged that his knee was unresponsive to treatment he was receiving in Portugal.

Carroll has flourished this season and had enjoyed his debut season in the Premier League scoring 11 league goals in 17 matches. An injury suffered against Tottenham on 28th December halted his immediate impact and has now travelled to a specialist in the Arctic for consultation over his latest setback.

Speaking to BBC Newcastle, Pardrew said:

“We brought him to Portugal to start running and disappointingly he hasn’t.

“His injury is in the muscle just above the tendon where it joins the knee so it’s not an area that gets great circulation. Therefore, it doesn’t heal quickly.”

Football mad Irish 20-year-old. Living in Dublin so I've had a keen interest in League of Ireland for the last 2-3 years and used to write about it on, focusing mainly on UCD's limited fortunes as well as the Irish national team. I started to merge this interest with gambling two years ago to moderate success so have continued to do so since! View all posts by Dylan O'Neill
