In some rather disturbing news emerging from Ecuador it seems that LDU Quito’s midfielder Luis Bolanos was shot once in his right shoulder and once in his right arm on Friday and is lucky enough to be ‘out of danger’ following this rampant attack. Reports in Ecuador suggest that Bolanos had been shot twice in the arm in the parking lot of his local mall while the identities of the assailants have yet to be identified.
All seems well with Bolanos though, according to LDU director Esteban Perez after he told a local radio station that Bolanos was recovering in a hospital in Northern Quito.
Bolanos had guided LDU to Libertadores Cup in 2008 as well as winning the Ecuadorian Serie A back in 2007. The 25-year old has also featured on an international scale for Ecuador, the last of his four caps coming back in the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign as he was called up to face Venezuela on the back of impressive performances against Argentina and Colombia.
Personally, I think jealously played a part on the attackers’ behalf. Money is hard to come by in these financial times and so they thought robbing Luis would provide a ‘quick-fix’ to the ongoing problem.
