Portuguese Player Steals Referee’s Red Card

Its late, I know, but let’s carry on. Here’s the story:

Chile and Portugal were contesting at the u-20’s world cup for a coveted place in the Quarter-finals. Chile were leading thanks to a goal from Arturo Vidal when in the 89th minute frustration got the better of two Portuguese players. A foul had occurred midway inside Chile’s half and Portuguese defender Mano came to sort it out. Unfortunately, he wasn’t trying to be the peacemaker and ran over, appearing out of nowhere, and shoved Chile’s Christian Sepulveda to the ground. The referee immediately took action and whipped out a red card, much to the dissatisfaction of the Portuguese. As Subkhiddin Mohd Salleh had started to raise his red card Portugal’s Zequinha felt compelled to take it away from him. Much to his dissatisfaction he received his marching orders almost instantaneously after Mano’s. Quite stupid behaviour if you ask me.

About Dylan O'Neill

Football mad Irish 20-year-old. Living in Dublin so I've had a keen interest in League of Ireland for the last 2-3 years and used to write about it on offtheupright.blogspot.com, focusing mainly on UCD's limited fortunes as well as the Irish national team. I started to merge this interest with gambling two years ago to moderate success so have continued to do so since! View all posts by Dylan O'Neill
