Wanted Man: Charlie Adam

The Blackpool midfielder has run rings around the Premier League this year and has proved an excellent signing for the Seasiders since his £500,000 move from Rangers in 2009.

Leading Blackpool to Premier League survival hasn’t been easy and along with the various other Blackpool players making their mark on the Prem, Adam has been at the centre of a transfer frenzy in recent weeks. He has starred in almost all of Blackpool’s games this season and with 29 points so far this season, it seems the Seasiders have all but secured Premier League survival for another year in the world’s top flight. But they could suffer from the common ‘second season syndrome’ most newly promoted clubs endure in their second season.

And that’s where Adam comes in. Throughout this January transfer window Adam has constantly been linked with a move away from Bloomfield Road despite the best efforts of gaffer and funnyman Ian Holloway. Holloway recently reiterated he was adamant on the Scot staying at Blackpool for next season and even went as far to label Adam with an outrageous £46M price tag.

Yesterday, as Holloway took to his weekly press conference, he became enraged when enquired about the possibility of selling Adam to Aston Villa.

“Obviously Aston Villa are a massive club but how can they rate Darren Bent at that sort of figure and offer me that for Charlie?” Holloway said. “I think it is quite derisory.”

Holloway went on to say that he would be open for offers for Adam but at the right price, so he says.

The thing is, if someone offered the ‘right’ amount of money, which would be fair in terms of the market value of Charlie, how do I work out what that market value is when clubs are paying absolutely ludicrous amounts of money for people I don’t see as being as good as Charlie?

So the future remains unclear for Adam. Liverpool are currently the bookies favourite at 1/10 followed closely by Aston Villa at 3/1 but it looks like The Reds could nab him under the nose of the Villains. It’s also notable to add that Liverpool had a bid of £4.5M for Charlie Adam turned down today.

DJ Campbell – The Sitter Show

What do you think of when DJ Campbell comes to mind? Prolific goalscorer or horrific chance misser?

Campbell has become notoriously known for his comical misses which have cost his team dearly in the past. So what is it that drives Blackpool’s striker to squander these chances? Nerves? Or is he just that bad?

In his latest sitter, Campbell was put through by teammate Charlie Adam and with no one else in sight, it was a classic one-on-one situation with West Brom keeper Chris Kirkland. Campbell strolled inside the box, gathered the ball and stroke the ball agonisingly wide.

Campbell have continuously missed chance after chance in the big games but Ollie has instilled his confidence in the young striker but frankly, I don’t know why.

Other notable sitters for the Englishmen came from the earlier half of the season and it involves a series of comical chances spurned by him, including his horror effort against Manchester City and also his awful miss against Sunderland just two and a half weeks ago.

Leave It To Holloway..

Leave it to Blackpool manager Ian Holloway to light up the Premier League. He adds comedy & unpredictability to press conferences. @font-face { font-family: “<span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="<span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="<span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>goog-spellcheck-word”><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>goog-spellcheck-word”><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="<span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>goog-spellcheck-word”><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>Cambria“;}p.<span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="<span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="<span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>goog-spellcheck-word”><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>goog-spellcheck-word”><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="<span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>goog-spellcheck-word”><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>MsoNormal, <span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="<span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="<span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>goog-spellcheck-word”><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>goog-spellcheck-word”><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="<span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>goog-spellcheck-word”><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>li.<span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="<span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="<span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>goog-spellcheck-word”><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>goog-spellcheck-word”><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="<span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>goog-spellcheck-word”><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>MsoNormal, div.<span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="<span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="<span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>goog-spellcheck-word”><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>goog-spellcheck-word”><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="<span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>goog-spellcheck-word”><span style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% yellow;" class="goog-spellcheck-word”>MsoNormal { margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; font-size: 12pt; font-family: “Times New Roman”; }div.Section1 { page: Section1; } He delivered yet another charismatic approach and as always, entertained the audience. In this latest installment he targets Fifa & more importantly Sepp Blatter and he’s distraught at the thought of moving the 2022 World Cup into January.

Holloway’s creativity in press conferences have paved a way for him becoming one of the most illustrious managers and he hasn’t been shy when it comes to press conferences. In past press conferences he’s passed judgement on the ‘Wayne Rooney Saga’ & he defended his squad selection for the Aston Villa match a while back. When he lost 3-2 to Villa courtesy of a late strike from James Collins, journalists were trying to put the pieces on why Holloway changed his whole team around. He reacted angrily and went on a nasty tirade, which has what he has become renowned for.
